Cheeseburger Sliders

Looking for an easy way to deliver the grilled classic cheeseburger taste without firing up a grill? You must try this recipe for cheeseburger sliders!

hearty cheeseburger sliders

This recipe is different from making miniature versions of hamburgers (like you often see on restaurant menus). Similar to my popular ham and cheese sliders, you start by slicing a sheet of Hawaiian rolls in half. Far easier and with less prep time than hand-forming a lot of small patties, you spread the bottom half with a ground beef mixture full of all the classic cheeseburger flavors we know and love.

Even so, you can serve these sliders with as many topping options as you like. Just remember your base flavors are traditional: beef, American cheese, ketchup, mayo, onion, and pickle.

You can mix it up a bit with variations and set up a slider bar that caters to almost every taste and preference. If you are serving a big crew, you could do two or three batches of different variations to give folks options. Unlike a traditional cheeseburger, these sliders are small enough to where people can try them all.

Besides parties and potlucks, they make a great appetizer before a main course or as part of a meal where you’re sharing a lot of small plates. In nearly every instance, these cheeseburger sliders are sure to hit the spot.

What to serve with cheeseburger sliders

When it comes to serving cheeseburger sliders, there are plenty of delicious side options that complement them perfectly. We’ll (of course!) start with the classic accompaniments of French fries or sweet potato fries. Another great choice? These BLT-loaded tater tots.

To add some greens and fiber, consider a Caesar salad, coleslaw or broccoli salad to add a refreshing crunch. And for another healthy alternative, serve them with crispy carrots or zucchini fries.

While you may already know what to do with the toppings you offer, here are a few ideas that work well with the classic flavors of these cheeseburger sliders:

  • Mayonnaise, mustard, ketchup, barbecue sauce, and salsa. Keep in mind this recipe already has ketchup, mayo and onion, but it won’t hurt to have some on hand if anyone wants more.
  • Pickle slices (noted in the recipe) and sweet pickle relish or dill pickle relish
  • Lettuce cut into small pieces.
  • Thinly sliced onions—white, yellow, red, and crispy fried are all good options for added crunch
  • Crispy, fried bacon cut into bite-sized pieces
  • Other cheeses besides the American cheese in the recipe.
  • Thinly sliced Roma tomatoes (or other small varieties that would fit the slider)
  • Mushrooms, whether thinly sliced fresh or sautéed

While cheeseburger sliders are more versatile than regular, full-sized burgers, some things are still constant, like what drinks work best. With any burger, you can’t go wrong with a refreshing soda or an ice-cold beer.

For dessert, keep it simple and classic. Here’s my mom’s best apple pie or try these no-bake chocolate oatmeal cookies.

Frequently asked questions about making these cheeseburger sliders

Whenever I serve or share this recipe, I usually get the same questions about them. I have covered them with answers below. Let me know in the comments section if you have other questions, and I will reply as soon as possible.

What size should slider burgers be?

Slider burgers should typically be around 2 inches in diameter, making them easy to pick up and eat in a few bites. This recipe uses Hawaiian rolls as the buns, all you have to do is slice them following the edges of the rolls for the perfect size.

Do you have suggestions for how to serve sliders at a party?

For a party, arrange the sliders on a platter, and let guests customize their sliders with a variety of toppings, such as lettuce, tomatoes, and pickles. I have listed lots of topping options above, and you could customize them even more if you do variations on the beef mixture.

These are easy to arrange in a large baking dish for easy transport if you’re bringing a batch to the gang at your office or taking them to a potluck.

How many sliders are needed per person?

If you’re serving these as an appetizer, plan for around two to three per person. As a main dish, adults will probably want four to five.

How many cheeseburger sliders can be made from one pound of ground beef?

With sliders that have miniature, formed patties, it takes about one pound of beef to make eight to 10 sliders. With this recipe, the meat goes a lot further since you are creating a mixture and then spreading it across the layer of roll bottoms. I use two pounds of beef for each 24-pack of Hawaiian rolls.
